Sutton Swing Bridge to Devil's Garden

Hugh Chemical Works
Moored at Weston Marsh Lock
Manchester Ship Canal
Weston Marsh Lock
It was very windy when we got up today, blowing a hoolie and overcast, no sun. Set off up the river past the huge chemical works and moored up on the floating pontoon by Weston Marsh Lock.  This lock leads into the Manchester Ship Canal but is not used very often.  Walked up by the lock and had a look at the Manchester Ship Canal , no ships on it today and it was really windy.  Went back to the boat and decided to turn around there using the pontoon as it was so windy.  You can  go on a little further to a low bridge but have to turn around there and come back, so didn’t think it was worth it considering the weather, so turned around with no bother and went back down the river under Sutton Swing Bridge, past where we moored last night and on down the river and moored in a lovely spot in the middle of nowhere called Devil’s Garden.  Had lunch then went out for a walk along the river but the path wasn’t very good, so I came back to the boat Kev carried on.  I did some tidying up until Kev came back.

Moored at Devil's Garden
We were just chilling out and we heard some live music playing, a Foo Fighter song, so walked up the field and at the top there were a lot of cars, people and a BMX track.  We asked one of the lads there and he said that it was just a get together of friends, one of the lads there his father owns the farm and the field they were in.  We left them to it and walked back to the boat.  We can hear the music from the boat, but its okay.  Funny though I think this is supposed to be the quietest spot on the river and I think it is, but the time we choose to moor here, there is a live band playing!!

Might stay here tomorrow depending on the weather or if the forecast is wrong, chug off.
