Wolverley to Caunsall (Staff & Worcs Canal)

Cave Men do still exist!

It was a bit overcast this morning, but dry as we set off from Wolverley through the lock and on up the canal.  Onto the Debdale lock which has a cavern cut into the solid rock.

This is a pretty canal but narrow in places with rocks overhanging the canal.

Into Cookley tunnel, its only 65 yards long, so easing us gently into tunnels with the bigger ones yet to come! And onto Caunsall and moored just before Bridge 26.

We decided to walk up to Cookley village as we haven’t done that before, so walked back along the canal to the tunnel, then up the steep path and into the village, not  much there but a couple of shops if you need supplies.  Stopped for a coffee, then walked back along the road and into Caunsall and back to the boat.

This evening we are off to The Anchor pub in Caunsall.    It’s a very old pub and has been in the same family for over 70 years, a real ale and cider pub and they only serve cobs (rolls), but they are the best you will taste.  People come from miles  around to have a cob and a pint.  It doesn’t matter which day of the week you go or lunch time or in the evening, it is always packed out, we have never seen anything like it and you have to see it to believe it.  They even do cob takeaways and you see people going out of the pub with bags of cobs taking them home!  That really is a new one to us!

Well we went up to the Anchor and it was heaving with people drinking real ale and ciders and eating cobs, they even turn up in their Porsche.  We had cobs as you can see and they were as good as before, real yummy.

We will moor here overnight and then be on our way tomorrow.
