Drayton Bassett to Curdworth (Birmingham & Fazeley Canal)

Passing the Dog & Doublet pub
Working through the Curdworth Flight
Set off earlier today at around 9am, well this is early for us!  The sun was shining again but it was abit chilly at first.  We have a flight of 11 locks to do this morning so chugged off to the first lock, these are different from locks on other canals in that they only have one bottom gate, most other single locks we have done have two bottom gates, it is much easier with one as you don’t have to cross over to open and shut the other gate, the downside is that they are much heavier, but we worked up through the locks, most of them were set for us, so that made life easier.  These locks are really nice set in countryside and go past a really nice pub called the Dog & Doublet and a hotel called Marston Farm Hotel, they look worth a visit, so next time we are this way, we will stop here and take a look.

Curdworth Flight

Chugged on up through the locks, only saw two boats coming down so the canal is really quiet.

In Curdworth Tunnel
Went through Cudworth Tunnel, all 57 yds of it and moored between the tunnel and the bridge at Curdworth.

Walked up the road, past the White Horse pub, a Vintage inn and into the small village, there is a post office/shop and another pub called the Beehive Inn.  Had a walk around, then went back to the White Horse pub and had a drink and some food, it is a really nice pub, then most Vintage inns are.

Back to the boat and just chilled out.  Staying here tonight, then setting off really early tomorrow morning to get through 27 locks and into Birmingham.
