Anderton Country Park to Northwich (River Weaver)

 Tuesday 5th August 2014

Kev's Fender
We are staying put today as we have to go and get our part for the bath, which probably won’t be here until lunch time.  Kev had finished the button fender he had been making for the back of the boat and so he spent some of the morning fitting it to the boat.  It looks brilliant and all home grown!  Not bad at all for a first attempt at fender making.  He’s now going to try and recover the old fender (tip cap) and then put that back on the boat behind his new button fender, will be good practice for him, I think we will make a fender man of him yet!!

Walked up to the chandlery to get our bath part, then walked over the bridge and up the road to the village of Anderton, no shops, just a few houses and a farm where we bought some free range eggs.  There is a pub there called the Stanley Arms, so we went in for a drink and it’s a really nice place, very friendly and a nice feel to it.  When we come back up the Anderton Lift onto the canal, we are going to eat in there as it looks so nice.

Left the pub and walked down to the visitor centre and sat outside and had a coffee while watching the boats going up and down the Anderton Lift.  One of the boats coming up was Tardis 2, the boat we had gone down in the lift with yesterday, they said they had decided to go back, not sure where to as they had only been on the Weaver less than 24 hrs, not time to see it at all, weird to us, but well there’s nowt so strange as folk!!

We walked back to the boat, it was a lovely sunny evening, so we just chilled out.  About 8.30ish, a boat tried to moor in front of us, they just came barging in and banged into us, without so much as a sorry, so I stuck my head out and said “please be careful”, he then muttered sorry and the woman just glared at me.  I know this is a contact sport, but if you do accidently hit another boat, it costs nothing to say sorry!  Hopefully if the rain holds out, we will be chugging off tomorrow to explore the River Weaver.

Chugging along the River Weaver
Coming into Northwich
It had been raining in the night, but when we got up, it had stopped, the sky was a little grey, but it was brightening up, so we decided to chug on today.  Left the Anderton Country Park and headed off up the river, it is more like a canal as it not tidal, it is really nice.  We got to Northwich, it was only about 1½ miles away, so didn’t take long.  We stopped for water, then moored up on the visitor moorings opposite the Marina which is now there.  When we came here six years ago, when our boat was being built, we stayed in the floating hotel which was there and now it has gone and a marina is in its place, how times change.

Northwich
We walked up to the town, had a few drops of rain, then the sun came out.  We had a look around the shops, stopped for a coffee and a bit of lunch, walked up to the Waitrose which is just by the marina, got a few things, then back to the boat and just chilled out for the rest of the day.  Heavy rain had been forecast for today, but luckily it missed us and it turned out to be a lovely sunny dry day.
