Monday 18th August
The wind had dropped today thank goodness, so we untied and set off back
down the river to Dutton Lock. There was a boat coming down, so had to wait,
then we went in with another boat, Bodica, the lock keeper was very
miserable. In all the other locks we had
just used our centre rope, but he insisted on us using bow and stern ropes, we
did tell him they weren’t very long and might not reach up and back again, but
he just kept grunting pass me the bow rope, luckily they just did reach, you
always meet one jobs worth!! Through the
lock and down the river to Acton Bridge for water. We were just mooring up and there was a heavy
shower, always seems to happen just as we are mooring up. Needless to say once we had got wet and tied
up, the sun came out! We filled up with
water, then chugged on to the next lock, Saltersford Lock. The lock keepers stop for lunch so we moored
up before the lock and had our lunch.
Elysium Days came and moored in front.
After lunch, we walked up to see the lock keeper, he said a boat was
just coming the other way, so he would let him down and then we could go
up. Waited for the boat to come down, in
fact there was two and one of them was Leah, said hi to them and then we went
in the lock with Elysium Days. The lock
keeper was very friendly, much better than the last one!
On down the river and stopped at Barnton Cut, there was one one boat
here, Elysium Days came in as well. The
sun came out and so we walked up to the village of Barnton and walked along to
the post office and butchers. Also went
in the Nisa on the way back. Walked back
down towards the boat, then we realised that the very thing, a top up for our
internet, we had gone to the Nisa for, we had forgotten, so I walked back to
the boat with the shopping and Kev went back to the shop. Kev came back and we just chilled out for the
rest of the evening, Kev did some more sewing on his fender!.

Passing the Anderton Lift |
It was raining quite hard when we woke up, but the forecast was that it
would go over by mid-morning. We waited
a while and the rain stopped and the sun came out, so we set off back down the
river past the Anderton Lift and moored by the Anderton Country Park. It’s a really nice sunny spot, well when the
sun is out that is! We are staying here
today and then going to go back up the lift tomorrow when there is a
space. We are going up to the visitor
centre this afternoon as there is a nice café.

Moored at Anderton Country Park |
We were lucky and didn't get a jobsworth lock keeper, but one of the others warned us that there were one or two who would insist on 'proper' ropes. Most of them seemed really friendly, some smoked a ciggy while they chatted to us. The one who told us about the jobsworths took the centre rope off me as he said it wasn't long enough, and he sat and held it while he sucked a lollipop!
