Bus Trip to Stafford and Uttoxeter

Tuesday 16th September

Cobbled Street, Stafford
Market Square, Stafford
We are going to Stafford today, so got ready and went up the road to get the bus where we thought it would go from, but when we were stood there waiting for the bus, we asked a local man and he said the bus routes had recently changed and it would be best if we walked up the road by the mini roundabout and caught the bus there, so that is what we did and a lady waiting for the bus told us that on this stop the bus (841) goes every hour, but from the other bus stop outside The Clifford Arms that we were waiting at first, the 842 runs every two hours and goes the scenic way to Stafford.

The Soup Kitchen, Stafford
We got on the bus and off to Stafford we went.  It is a really nice town.  Had a wander around and the chap that we asked about the bus told us of a lovely cafĂ©/ restaurant called The Soup Kitchen opposite St Mary’s Church and so we went to find it.  Well, he was right, it was such a lovely place and we had a really nice cup of coffee and the freshest home-made scone.  He said it was the delight of Stafford and he was right.  Wandered around a bit more, there are plenty of shops and a market square.  As we had bought a day rider ticket, we decided to stay on the bus on the way back and go to Uttoxeter to see what this town was like.

High Street, Uttoxeter

It took about an hour from Stafford to Uttoxeter on the bus, but it was worth going as it is a nice market town, plenty of shops and a pedestrian area.  Had a walk around, went for a drink in a really old pub with beamed ceilings, then caught the bus back to Great Haywood.  We really enjoyed our day out in Stafford and Uttoxeter.
We are staying here tonight, then chugging off tomorrow.
